You Can’t Get Rich if You Rely on Other People

Story time.

Remember that contest I had awhile back? It turns out the prize, which was “generously” donated by my friend Jake, was a dud. Instead of getting a $100 gift certificate, the winner received a $0 gift certificate. It looks like the full balance was used back in September.

I’d like to take this time to publicly apologize to Georgia, who was planning on using the gift certificate to buy a Christmas present. You’ll still get your $100, and I’ve sent you an email asking if you’d prefer a check or paypal.

Let this be a lesson to the rest of you. If you’re going to have a contest, make sure that you confirm that the prize actually exists. I really should have checked the balance on that gift certificate before even starting the contest, but I figured I could trust my sponsor. This situation has put my reputation in the spotlight, and when you’re just starting out like I am, your reputation is everything.
