Don't kid yourself...

You want to get rich with your blog? Maybe you think Adsense will let you retire? Sorry, it's not going to happen.

Set Some Goals

It’s the day after Christmas, and the euphoria is going to wear off soon. It’s time to get back to work, pay the bills, etc etc. It’s also a perfect time to set some goals for 2008. Goals, not new year’s resolutions. What the difference? Nobody ever seems to keep their new year’s resolutions. If you insist on changing something in the coming year, it’s not enough to just set a goal. You have to actively approach the goal and lay out a plan for accomplishing the goal. For example, I have the following goals for this blog in the coming year:

  • Reach 1,000 readers a day. I plan to accomplish this by being active in my niche community and attracting more readers via contests and social bookmarking.
  • Do at least one ReviewU review per week. This goes hand in hand with attracting new readers, because every blog owner loves a free backlink.
  • Get in the top 10,000 on Technorati. I’ll need to write quality content to get more backlinks.
  • Keep up my daily posting streak. I still haven’t missed an update.

What are you hoping to accomplish in 2008? Whether it’s personal, business, or anything else, make sure that you have an idea about how to accomplish your goals, or you’re going to be disappointed. Right now I have a particularly lofty goal of creating 1,500 arbitrage sites by May and quitting my job, but that one may be a little out of reach.

Oh well, maybe someday.
